Fashion Sees No Boundaries
Fashion is not defined, but an art of making a statement.
As a plus-size, African American woman, I never knew my style of fashion. When I was younger (pre-teens), I would wear what my mom could find in secondhand shops, Goodwill & Salvation Army. I never really picked anything out because my creativity was for my words & writing, not for an item of clothing. I didn’t see any point in using my appearance as a statement. I realize now, fashion can be my first impression for endless opportunities.
Now, that I’m in my mid-twenties, my clothing has evolved like my skills and personality. I take risks, when I’m feeling lucky and I keep a minimal tone when I want to keep it casual. Monochromatic and neutral tones keep me in check and alleviate any guessing on my priorities. However, fun, vibrant colors show I can be bold and daring. I opened my mind to a new outlet for creativity: fashion.
I don’t need to find an aesthetic, I am the aesthetic.
