The Games We Played
After a long day of trying not to tell people that JavaScript really isn’t that hard, I sat down on the couch and told Luke and Benjamin that they had ten minutes left before they had to turn off their game and start their homework. For a moment, I sat there in disbelief as I realized just how far gaming tech has come. They were attempting to navigate their newest Xbox addition, Portal 2. If you haven’t heard of it, consider yourself lucky. The graphics are something to behold but it is basically just an exaggerated version of Super Mario Bros (the one I played when I was a kid, none of this new garbage). This game, however, seemed way more complicated. When did video games move from being an outlet for dumb, mindless after school entertainment to this beyond extreme, obsessively complicated, emotionally manipulative garbage?Â
