First of all, the name Jack o’lantern” comes from the Irish legend of Stingy Jack. Rumors have spread far and wide suggesting that stingy Jack welcomed Satan to have a beverage with him, yet Jack didn’t want to pay for the beverage, so he persuaded Satan to transform himself into a coin. Rather than purchasing the beverage, he stashed the coin and kept it near a silver cross in his home, keeping Satan from taking shape again.
